MCP
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI apps call outside tools and data sources through one interface.
What it means
The Model Context Protocol, or MCP, is an open standard for connecting AI applications to outside tools and data. A server exposes tools, such as a search function, and a client, such as an agent app, calls them through the same interface. One search server can then work with several AI clients without custom code for each one. Several search vendors now offer an MCP server alongside their REST API.
You.com lists a web search endpoint through its MCP server with 100 free queries a day and no API key. Hyperresearch Answers is also available as an MCP server. Before you connect a search MCP server, check which tools it exposes, what each call costs, and whether it returns quotes or only links. An MCP server adds convenience. It does not change the quality or pricing of the search behind it.
